News Update – May 2010

During the Black Saturday bush fires in February 2009, Delderfield was impacted heavily but due to a huge amount of luck and Ian’s valiant efforts, the damage was contained.  Many parts of the garden were destroyed along with garages and sheds.  One of the suites was partially destroyed when a large tree fell.

However, a huge effort has gone into replacing, rebuilding, replanting and now one year on Delderfield is looking as beautiful as ever, albeit minus some of the large trees which once surrounded the gardens.  However, whilst we miss the trees terribly, the view is even more stunning than before.

Marysville itself is moving on quite quickly now.  Rebuilding is progressing well with shops, cafes, petrol and some of the old favourites like the Lolly Shop which has reopened in a temporary home.  The school is now open and the community centre is well under way.  New private residences are popping up almost every day.

Whilst Steavensons Falls is closed for major works, it is anticipated to be open to the public by summer.  Works on the walking tracks are progressing well and almost every day another one is opened.

Lake Mountain (cross country skiing) is now fully open and operational.  They have installed even bigger and better snow making equipment this year - they now have snowmobiles for hire and this sounds like great fun.

Marysville still has much to offer our guests and we encourage past and future guests to return to enjoy and marvel at how Mother Nature has the ability to fight back.

Marysville is a pleasant 95 minute drive from Melbourne’s CBD though the Yarra Valley and the iconic Mountain Ash forests of the Black Spur and only 20 minutes from the summit of Lake Mountain, the nearest snow fields to Melbourne.

Guests often arrive tired and stressed as a result of their hectic lives, but leave relaxed and rejuvenated, having surrendered to the spell of Delderfield.
